Rhode Island's Doula Bill

We’re all moving to Rhode Island.

Okay, maybe not. But after today’s news, we kind of want to.

Did you hear? “The General Assembly approved legislation (2021-H 5929A, 2021-S 0484A) sponsored by Representative Marcia Ranglin-Vassell (D-District 5, Providence) and Senator Ana B. Quezada (D-District 2, Providence) to make doula services eligible for reimbursement through private insurance plans. The legislation, which was also included in the state budget bill, now heads to the governor.

We get so excited when we hear about this kind of progress. Doulas have been proven to improve birth outcomes, especially for Black, Indigenous and Women of Color that are already more likely to be in situations wherein a doula is less accessible.

A doula is for everyone. We’ve said it before, we’ll say it again. So for larger scale change to be reinforcing this, well. We’re beyond hopeful.
